Biography


Dahl Delu studied scenery, costume, and lighting design, as well as scenic painting in both his undergraduate and graduate college degrees. He also minored in studio art and art history.

He is best know for his extensive work in American Theatre and Primetime Television. He has designed sets, costumes, lighting, and has painted scenery for the Broadway stage, Off-Broadway theatre, the Metropolitan Opera, the New York City Opera and Ballet, and many regional theatres, such as the The Tyrone Guthrie Theatre, The Repertory Theatre of Lincoln Center, The Seattle Repertory Theatre, and the Children’s Theatre Company of Minneapolis.

Mr. Delu began his television career as Art Director for Norman Lear's company in 1980 and has received two EMMY awards for Outstanding Art Direction and Production Design. His popular TV series include DIFF’RENT STROKES, FACTS OF LIFE, SILVER SPOONS, CHEERS, DEAR JOHN, FRESH PRINCE OF BEL AIR, SISTER, SISTER, GEORGE AND LEO, DRAGNET, and ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT.

Mr. Delu has been painting in acrylic and oils since college and has been shown in many galleries in the United States as well as Mexico and Europe. His original paintings were portraits of Manhattan Brownstones. In 1989 he took his first trip to Mexico and started his “Images of Mexico” series for three galleries in Puerto Vallarta: Galeria Uno, Galeria Pacifico, and Indigenous.

In 2007 he organized a group of plein air artists who call themselves THE ARTISTS OF THE CANYON. They had group and individual shows in various venues. Mr. Delu had a Solo show in Februay of 2008 called My Thieves Garden, featuring his Succulent paintings.

 
In July of 2009 Mr. Delu moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico and is a member the two galleries: The Nob Hill Gallery on Montgomery and the YUCCA Gallery in Old Town. He is also an active member of the Rio Grande Art Association and is currently the chairman of the RGAA annual ENCANTADA exhibition for September of 2011 and is the RGAA representative to MASTERWORKS 2011.

in 2010-2011 he taught theatre design at Santa Fe University for Art and Design and designed their production of WHO’S AFRAID OF VIRGINIA WOOLF, where he also had a one man painting exhibition in the Greer Garson Theatre.

2010-2012 he will be teaching three classes in Theatre Design at the University of New Mexico, main campus.
